Invertebrate Search

As we have been learning about classification in our science class we decided to go out and put what we were learning in books into action.

We went exploring our school playground on the grass, in around the trees and in the puddles to discover what invertebrates live in our school. We used an invertebrates chart to identify each one and we used our ipads to photograph them and add these to our records.  We were happy to find a spider, a snail, some flys, a mosquito and lots of ants among others.

Friendship trees in Year 4

In Year 4 this week we were talking about how to be good friends. We discussed in groups what makes people happy and what can make people upset. We learnt that we should be careful what we say to people as sometimes we can make them feel a little bad, even if we don't mean too.

To help us think about what we say and how we treat people we have made friendship trees in each class. Now those trees are looking a little bit like trees in chilly wintertime as they are without any leaves but as teachers notice children doing kinds things leaves will be added one by one for each good deed. I'm sure we will have beautiful green summer trees in every classroom soon!

Fraction Fun in Maths

This term we will be studying fractions and decimals in maths. We have started off by looking at what a fraction is and where we can find fractions;whether it is groups of people, numbers, dividing up shapes and of course the favourite: sharing out pizza!  Once we are comfortable with fractions we will then move on to decimals and fraction/decimal conversions.
