Friendship trees in Year 4

In Year 4 this week we were talking about how to be good friends. We discussed in groups what makes people happy and what can make people upset. We learnt that we should be careful what we say to people as sometimes we can make them feel a little bad, even if we don't mean too.

To help us think about what we say and how we treat people we have made friendship trees in each class. Now those trees are looking a little bit like trees in chilly wintertime as they are without any leaves but as teachers notice children doing kinds things leaves will be added one by one for each good deed. I'm sure we will have beautiful green summer trees in every classroom soon!

Fraction Fun in Maths

This term we will be studying fractions and decimals in maths. We have started off by looking at what a fraction is and where we can find fractions;whether it is groups of people, numbers, dividing up shapes and of course the favourite: sharing out pizza!  Once we are comfortable with fractions we will then move on to decimals and fraction/decimal conversions.

Classifying Living Things in Year 4

This term in science we will be learning how to classify living things into groups. We will especially be looking at animals and how these can be grouped into mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish as well as into vertebrates and invertebrates.  We will also study how plants can be classified into groups such as flowering and non-flowering plants and trees with deciduous and ever green leaves.

We started by looking at pictures of animals and putting them in groups. We had a lot of fun trying to work out the differences between lizards and amphibians and wondering about how why dolphins and sharks are actually different.
